I was fortunate in 2022 after a long period of pandemic lockdown to spend some time in the United Kingdom. Being able to base myself in the northern hemisphere allowed me to do small weekend breaks to Europe which I designated time out of time. The beauty of being in the northern hemisphere compared to living in Australia is the ability to fly for around two hours to reach your destination!! We are used to very long flights.

One of these destinations was Palma De Mallorca in Spain. Mallorca is one of the Balearic Islands. The Bay of Palma is on the south coast of Mallorca and Palma is its largest and capital city.

Flying from Stanstead, passing over Barcelona and down to Mallorca gave me a sense of why most people in Europe wish to be in Mallorca. This is a beautiful island with multiple things to do. In my weekend break, I was only able to see part of Palma but two weeks in Mallorca would be a wonderful holiday- back on the bucket list.

I was there in late September and the climate was perfect. Every day was sunny but not too hot, with temperatures around 22 degrees.

There are so many things to do. Wandering around the old city with its enormous history showing the influences of neighbours where the influence of Spanish and the Arab past was quite evident. Getting around is not too difficult. There is a city bus system that takes you everywhere that you want to go.

The beaches are fantastic.

I spent an afternoon on a large catamaran which anchored out in the bay. We swam for an hour in the sparkling clean warm Mediterranean Sea. There were great opportunities for water sports

One of the highlights was the Palma Cathedral. The cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma also known as La Seu was built in three stages, originally a Christian church upon which a mosque was built and then the Cathedral. This took some time, roughly 400 years to complete by 1601. The great Spanish architect Anthony Gaudi restored the building in 1901.

Eating out in Mallorca was a treat. I had the best paella that I have ever tasted.

There are things to do day and night. The beaches are great, the party is endless. Mallorca is a wonderful time out of time.
